Form Builder With Conditional Logic for Smarter Forms
Conditional logic makes a form short for each person and complete for you. Each rule is a condition and an effect, and you set both with plain choices instead of code.
How a rule is built
Condition and effect
Every rule has two parts. The condition looks at an answer, for example Employment type equals Contractor. The effect says what happens, for example show the field Company name. You pick the field, choose how to compare it, and choose the result from a list. Test the rule in the live preview before you publish.
The four effects
- Show a field, so a question appears only when it applies
- Skip a step, so a person never sees a screen that is not theirs
- Change the price, so the total follows the selection
- Route the submission, so it goes to the person who should handle it
Rules in practice
Example one, a service request
Field: Request type, with choices Repair, Installation and Quote.
- If Request type is Repair, show Describe the problem and Upload a photo
- If Request type is Installation, show Preferred date and Site address
- If Request type is Quote, skip the scheduling step entirely
Example two, pricing that follows the answers
A workshop form asks for Number of attendees and Add lunch, yes or no. With a payment step on the Plus plan, you can set a base price of 120 USD per attendee and add 15 USD per attendee when lunch is yes. The total shown at payment matches the answers, and the submission is saved after the payment is confirmed.
Example three, routing an approval
A purchase form has a field called Amount. If Amount is below 500 USD, the request goes to the team lead. If it is 500 USD or more, it goes to the finance manager as well. The decision is stored with the submission, so you can see later who approved and when it happened in the record.
Keeping rules under control
Test every path
Open the preview and answer the form as each kind of person would. Check that a hidden field does not leave a gap, and that a skipped step does not break the progress bar on a multi step form.
Keep it readable
A few clear rules beat a tangle. Name fields so their purpose is obvious, group related questions into steps, and write the rule in your head as a sentence: if this, then that. If the sentence needs the word unless, split it into two rules.
What is included in each plan
Conditional logic is part of Starter at 49 USD a month (24 USD billed yearly), along with 5 forms and 500 submissions a month. Changing prices, collecting payments, signatures and approvals need Plus at 149 USD a month (74 USD billed yearly). Pro at 499 USD a month (249 USD billed yearly) adds roles and an audit log for teams that need to track who changed what.
People finish short forms more often than long ones, and conditional logic is how a form stays short. Pair it with the multi step form builder to keep every screen simple, or see the broader form builder software overview.
